Essential rail improvements over Christmas and New Year

29/12/2021

Thousands of Network Rail engineers are spending the festive period away from family and friends this year, working around the clock to maintain and improve 3,000 miles of track and signals in the South East region.

Some workers have been staying in hotels to ensure projects still continue despite Covid. The essential engineering works will take place between 23rd December and 4th January.

Major works have been taking place on lines out of Waterloo, Victoria and Charing Cross to the South Coast replacing life-expired track and sleepers, renewing the network to provide a better journey for passengers.

A big 'thank you' to everyone who's given up their Christmas and New Year to work on these massive upgrades.

For our part, we are proud to be helping Network Rail to keep their workforce safe and maintain their record of running the safest railway in Europe.
